Here are some of the plans we’d like to accomplish over the years, with your vote.

Convenient Access

  • Expanded operating hours (uniform across all branches, 7 days a week)

  • Increased Maker Studio hours and services

  • Additional Outreach Services

  • After-hours access (utilizing pick-up lockers or book vending machines)

Since COVID, the Delaware County District Library has had to make drastic cuts to its overall operating hours in order to provide basic services to the public. We will expand our current hours at all branches, making hours uniform across the system and including Sundays.

The Maker Studio has been incredibly successful since its initial launch in 2019. It will also benefit from increased operating hours and additional services.

Outreach Services reaches the Delaware County populations who may be unable to physically visit a library branch. Their expanded Bookmobile stops, and preschool and senior living facility visits will benefit our County’s most vulnerable populations.

We also know that sometimes it’s hard to get to the library even during regular operating hours. We plan to assess the community’s needs and offer after-hours pick-up lockers or on-demand book vending machines so that the community can access the materials they want when it’s quick and convenient for them.

Increased Services

  • More popular print and digital materials

  • Notary and passport services

  • More study spaces, more access to existing study & meeting rooms

  • Increased programming

  • More online resources (databases)

When the Library conducted community surveys in 2023 and 2024 to develop its current strategic plan, community members voiced the things that they desired the most from the library.

At the top of the list were more popular materials in both print and digital formats and notary and passport services.

We also know that our most in-demand current services are our study spaces, educational programming, and digital educational tools. These services will expand so you have more of what you need, when you need it.

Upgrades

  • Renovations to Delaware, Ostrander, and phase II to Powell

  • Upgraded A/V in buildings, with streaming capabilities for programming/meetings

  • Improvements to and better use of outdoor spaces

Delaware is growing, and we’re ready to grow with it. The current funds that the library operates under have not changed since 2008, but Delaware County has. The county has grown 220% (population 2023/1990) and our facilities should reflect that.

Delaware Branch Library has not seen a major renovation since 1993 and small improvements in 2003. Powell Branch Library had minor improvements in 2024 to fix plumbing issues built with the branch in 1995, but more is needed. Ostrander Branch Library is a bedroom library, but the Ostrander community is growing and will continue to grow.

Upgrades to technology as well as green spaces will ensure that we are staying true to the technology of the day while also giving space for free play, exploration and creativity.
