DCDL trustees lay plans for 2025 meetings

The Delaware County District Library (DCDL) Board of Trustees held its annual organizational meeting and regular meeting on Tuesday, Jan 21.

Also during the regular meeting of the Board of Trustees, the board made actions to prepare for a public levy on the May 6 ballot. These actions included approving a resolution requesting County Auditor George Kaitsa to certify the current tax valuation, accepting Auditor Kaitsa’s certification, and approving a resolution requesting submission of the question of a tax levy. Both resolutions passed with trustees Tiede, Skinner, McCoy, Kipfer and Quaine voting in favor, and trustees Allen and Ike abstaining.

The above motions will initiate proceedings for the submission to the electors of the library the question of an additional tax levy for current expenses of the library. The county auditor certified that an additional 1-mill tax will generate $10.5 million based on the current tax valuation. One mill for each $1 of taxable value amounts to $35 for each $100,000 of the county auditor’s appraised value. The levy, first due in calendar year 2026, would run 15 years.

Kaitsa was present at the meeting to issue the certification of the tax valuation.

The Delaware County District Library currently has 101,000 cardholders and serves the greater population of Delaware County, including those living in Delaware City, Buckeye Valley, and Olentangy Local school districts.
